Have you already done your speech? I’d love to be of help in completing it. However you may need to tell me exactly what the function is and what you will be discussing.

Here are a few things you may want to be sure to do:

You start by welcoming your guests and colleagues (name names and titles if time will allow).
Introduce yourself and your position.
Introduce the body organising the function (history, mission etc) and what the function is meant to achieve.
Thank everyone for coming and tell them to expect to have a good time (use your own words)
